From June 12th to 15th, the PhD students of the FIRE doctoral school at EURIP organized a memorable retreat in Arcachon. This annual getaway is more than just a break from research : it’s an essential moment, designed by the PhDs, to build a strong, connected, and supportive doctoral community.
Throughout the week, participants took part in a mix of academic and recreational activities designed to strengthen both personal and professional ties. On the academic side, students explored a new thesis chapter focused on the social-environmental impacts of their PhD projects and how their research could contribute to planetary health. They also heard inspiring testimonials from alumni about life after the PhD. On the recreational side, they enjoyed visits to the Réserve Ornithologique du Teich, Château Pape Clément, and a boat trip across the stunning Bassin d’Arcachon.
During this retreat meaningful connections have been created among 1st, 2nd and 3rd year PhD students,, as well as with alumni. By the end of the retreat, participants expressed how valuable the experience had been!
Now it’s summertime, and we’re recharging before welcoming the new FIRE 2025/26 cohort this September. If you’re considering a PhD and looking for a program that values academic excellence, social impact and human connection, FIRE at EURIP might be the place for you. Stay tuned for more news!
