Education

The Graduate School offers a 5-year course: Master 1, Master 2 and PhD, through research and an emphasis on interdisciplinarity. The Master’s program includes 3 internships lasting a total of 18 months. This research-based course is complemented by events co-organized by students in the program and personalized support for each student from the teaching team and research mentors.

Since 2006, the Learning Planet Institute has been at the forefront of interdisciplinary education, nurturing leaders capable of addressing humanity’s most pressing challenges through innovative collaboration. Our Master of AIRE is designed for students who aspire to address global challenges related to sustainability and planetary health through innovative, interdisciplinary approaches.

Program overview, students’ projects, and internships (2025-2026)

 

The Master of AIRE Curriculum is dynamic and progressive. Courses’ content evolves from one year to another to adapt to our fast-changing times and reflect our living and social environment in the best way possible.

Before the start of the academic year, you will establish a learning agreement with the pedagogical team, mentioning your optional courses and learning journey. In the Master’s, you will be able to gain substantial, meaningful research experience thanks to our internship-rich program and research courses.

Our program aims at empowering future innovators for sustainable development and promoting teamwork and collaboration thus building long-lasting ties with researchers and fellow students from all over the world.

Core/Mandatory Courses: These courses form the backbone of the curriculum and provide essential concepts for understanding planetary health, sustainability, and the application of interdisciplinary approaches.

Elective Courses: Electives allow students to specialize in topics of personal interest and career goals. They can choose courses based on their interests in sustainability, data analysis, and planetary health-related themes.

Experiential Learning & Research: The master’s program emphasizes experiential learning through internships, collaborative projects, and research-based coursework. Students are required to complete at least one internship of a minimum of 4-6 months in the first year (M1) followed by two to three internships lasting a total of 9 months in the second year (M2). These internships provide hands-on experience in real-world settings, facilitating the application of learned competencies.

  • Critical Thinking: Cultivate the ability to critically assess information, formulate questions, and evaluate sustainability initiatives.

  • Ethical Decision-making: Engage in ethical practices and promote equity and justice in sustainability initiatives.
  • Interdisciplinary Work: Foster collaborative work across disciplines to develop innovative solutions for planetary health challenges.
  • Creativity & Innovation: Encourage creativity and innovation in designing solutions for sustainability through FabLab projects for Frugal Prototyping.
  • Digital Literacy: Develop proficiency in using digital/AI tools and platforms to support sustainability efforts.
